New York Attractions

Pride of place goes to the city of New York in the US. This is because you can never tire of New York attractions of which there are so many that it will take more than a year to cover all of them. Since most people cannot devote so much time to seeing all of these attractions, it becomes imperative to select those attractions that are considered among the top ones in the city of New York. Times Square: This is where the headquarters of the New York Times is located. Times Square is however better known for the area that never sleeps. It is a bustling place the whole year round inclusive of at night time. Its vicinity to Broadway and its Disneyification helps to give Times Square its unique aura. In the early nineties, it was not very secure, but now that has changed for the better.

Statue of Liberty: It is a symbol of America's spirit of freedom. The huge 151 feet high statue of Liberty Enlightening the World looms against the New York Harbor skyline. It is an icon for immigrants to New York. It is situated on Liberty Island. Access to it is limited although the National Parks Service has now reopened Liberty Island to visitors. You may like climbing its narrow 354 steps to the top of the Statue through a winding staircase inside the statue. It takes almost three hours to climb it.

Central Park: This is decidedly pastoral in contrast to the skyscrapers of New York. It has an area of 843 acres. Sheep Meadow, Great Lawn, the Lake rowboat ride, a stroll along the Mall, or a game of softball forms some of its attractions.

Metropolitan Museum of Art: This has except Paris the greatest Impressionist art collection of 19th and 20th century European paintings and sculpture. It also gives you a glimpse into the ancient Egyptian civilization through art depicting the splendor of its temples. The Museum is one of the greatest in the world. St. Patrick's Cathedral: It is the largest Gothic Catholic cathedral in the US. It is situated on Fifth Avenue in close proximity to the Rockefeller Center. It was a project conceived by Archbishop Hughes in 1853. It opened its doors to the public in 1879.

New York Yankees & Yankee Stadium: This is located in the Bronx. It is a historically important Yankee structure. Major League events are held there. A new state-of-the-art Yankee Stadium is slated to open there in 2009.

Empire State Building: It is a building 381 meters high. Tourists use its 86th floor observatory to have a 360 degree view of the city of New York.
